About this calculator
The Pomodoro technique breaks work into 25 minute blocks with a five minute break, and a longer break after four cycles. Counting the breaks and the time lost to switching, six pomodoros is roughly three hours of clock time for two and a half hours of work.
Worked example
calculated with the default values below
Number of pomodoros 8 · Work block length 25 min · Short break 5 min · Long break 15 min · Long break after every N pomodoros 4 · Start time 9 h Total focused work 200 min · Total break time 45 min · Total calendar time 245 min · Estimated finish time 13.08 h · Long breaks taken 1 · Focused share of the session 81.6 %

Formula and variables
T = kw + (k − 1 − ⌊k ÷ e⌋) × b_s + ⌊k ÷ e⌋ × b_l
- T
- Total time (min)
- k
- Pomodoros
- w
- Work interval (min)
- b_s
- Short break (min)
- b_l
- Long break (min)
- e
- Long break every n
Finish = start + T ÷ 60 (mod 24); efficiency = kw ÷ T × 100.
Frequently asked questions
Why is no break counted after the final Pomodoro?
The estimate counts breaks between work sessions. A long break follows each completed interval only when another session remains, so the last session does not add a break after the work is finished.
How are breaks counted for eight pomodoros?
The tool counts floor(8 ÷ 4) = 2 long breaks and max(0, 8 − 1 − 2) = 5 short breaks. At 25-minute work, 5-minute short breaks and 15-minute long breaks, that is 200 focus minutes plus 55 break minutes, finishing at 13:15 from 09:00. It includes a long break after the final fourth-pomodoro block.
