Photography Calculators
12 calculators
Exposure and optical geometry: depth of field, field of view, crop factor, focal-length equivalents, ND-filter stops and file sizes. Depth-of-field results depend on the circle-of-confusion value chosen for your sensor size, and manufacturers publish their own, so two calculators can disagree slightly and both be right.
- Crop Factor Calculator Convert a lens focal length and aperture to its full-frame equivalent for any sensor size.
- Depth of Field Calculator Calculate the near limit, far limit and total depth of field for any focal length and aperture.
- Exposure Calculator Convert a scene brightness into equivalent aperture, shutter and ISO combinations.
- Focal Length Calculator Find the focal length needed to fill the frame with a subject of a given size.
- Image File Size Calculator Calculate the uncompressed and compressed size of a digital image.
- ND Filter Calculator Work out the new shutter speed after fitting a neutral density filter.
- PPI Calculator Calculate the pixels per inch your image will print at, and the largest quality print size.
- Projector Distance Calculator Work out the throw distance needed for a screen size, or the screen size a room allows.
- Screen Size Calculator Convert a screen diagonal into width, height and area for any aspect ratio.
- Shutter Speed Calculator Find the slowest shutter speed that stays sharp for handholding or for moving subjects.
- Time-Lapse Calculator — Shooting Plan Plan a time lapse: how many frames, how long the clip runs and how much storage it needs.
- Video File Size Calculator Estimate video file size from bitrate, duration and a codec adjustment; compare it with storage capacity.

Photography calculations connect capture settings with an intended output. Exposure changes, lens geometry and file-size estimates use different models. Start with the actual sensor, lens, timing or encoding assumptions rather than comparing results that happen to use similar camera terminology.
Relate lens and exposure settings
Crop factor and focal length describe framing relationships, while depth of field adds aperture and focus assumptions. An ND-filter tool changes an exposure-time scenario; it does not measure the light in the scene.
Plan sequences and storage
A time-lapse calculation connects capture interval, duration and playback rate. Image and video file sizes depend on the chosen representation or bitrate, so compressed output can differ from a raw-pixel or fixed-rate estimate.
Check the settings against the equipment
Sensor formats, lens markings, available shutter settings and encoding modes vary. Treat the result as a planning value and verify the actual framing, exposure or file size with the camera and editing workflow.
