Solar array sizing and voltage-drop estimation for a circuit run. Both are safety-adjacent: voltage drop depends on cable cross-section, length, temperature and load, and the acceptable limit is set by local wiring rules. Have a licensed electrician verify anything you intend to install.

About

This category contains two planning tools: solar-array sizing and voltage-drop estimation. They answer different questions and require different inputs. A solar-energy estimate starts from demand and resource assumptions, while a voltage-drop calculation starts from the electrical and conductor values shown on that page.

Build a solar-energy scenario

The solar-panel tool connects an energy-use scenario with the entered solar-resource and system assumptions. Review whether quantities are power or energy over time, and distinguish the model’s estimated output from the nameplate rating of a particular panel.

Check a conductor-run calculation

The voltage-drop tool estimates a drop for the specified circuit model. Related Ohm’s-law and electrical-quantity tools are available in other categories, but they do not replace the information required for conductor selection or protective devices.

Keep calculation and design approval separate

Verify actual equipment data, conductor conditions and applicable installation requirements with a qualified professional. A simplified estimate does not certify electrical safety, allowable conductor size, system protection or compliance with a local code.
