Quantities for beds, water and feed: soil volume, compost ratios, fertiliser rates, drip-irrigation run times, plant spacing and expected yield. Soil tests beat rule-of-thumb rates, and local rainfall should be subtracted from any irrigation figure before you act on it.

About

Garden planning connects geometry with living conditions. Bed area and soil volume can be calculated from dimensions, while growth, yield and watering estimates need assumptions about the site. Start with measurements you know and keep local weather, soil and plant requirements separate from the arithmetic.

Measure beds and distribute plants

Use soil volume for a bed’s filled depth, plant spacing for a layout, and seed tools for a coverage scenario. Check edge spacing and whether paths, containers or unusable areas are included in the measured dimensions.

Plan water and amendments

Rain-barrel sizing connects collection area and rainfall; irrigation tools use flow, time or coverage assumptions. Fertilizer calculations need the stated analysis and application basis, rather than a generic amount for every garden.

Adjust a scenario to the actual site

A numerical schedule does not observe rainfall, drainage, soil moisture or plant stress. Check product directions and local growing conditions. Tree-age and yield estimates are model outputs, not measurements of an individual tree or a guaranteed harvest.
