About this calculator

A percentile tells you what share of the data falls below a point. Being at the 90th percentile means you scored higher than ninety percent of the group, not that you scored ninety percent.

Worked example

calculated with the default values below

Numbers (comma separated) 12, 45, 67, 78, 88, 90, 92, 95, 99, 100 · Percentile to find 90 % Value at that percentile 99.1000 · Position in sorted list 8.10 · Number of values 10 · Minimum 12.0000 · Maximum 100.0000

Formula and variables

Qp = x[lo] + (x[hi] − x[lo]) × (idx − lo); idx = (n − 1) × p ÷ 100, lo = ⌊idx⌋, hi = ⌈idx⌉

Qp
Value at percentile p
n
Number of values
p
Percentile (0–100)
x[]
Sorted data (ascending)

Uses linear interpolation at index (n−1)×p/100 (the inclusive percentile method). Accepts up to 10,000 finite values and percentile p from 0 to 100; invalid or empty list entries are rejected.

Frequently asked questions

How is the percentile value selected?

The calculator sorts the values and uses linear interpolation at position (n−1) × percentile/100, matching the inclusive percentile method. Enter a percentile from 0 to 100 and up to 10,000 finite numeric values.

How is the percentile calculated?

The calculator sorts all entered values and uses linear interpolation at index (n − 1) × p ÷ 100. Every token must be a valid number; an empty list or malformed value is rejected instead of silently ignored.
