About this calculator

True shooting percentage uses points, field-goal attempts and free-throw attempts. The efficiency output is a simple sum of listed box-score stats; it is not NBA Player Efficiency Rating (PER) and does not adjust for pace.

Worked example

calculated with the default values below

Points 24 · Rebounds 8 · Assists 6 · Steals 2 · Blocks 1 · Turnovers 3 · Field goal attempts 18 · Free throw attempts 6 · Minutes played 32 min True shooting % 58.1 % · Efficiency (PTS+REB+AST+STL+BLK-TO) 38 · Points per minute 0.750

Method and assumptions

E = p + X + S − T; TS% = p ÷ (2(F + 0.44Q)) × 100; PPM = p ÷ m True shooting percentage = Points / [2 × (FGA + 0.44 × FTA)]. Box-score efficiency is the simple sum shown on this page; it is not NBA PER and is not pace-adjusted. True shooting percentage uses points, field-goal attempts and free-throw attempts. Frequently asked questions

How is true shooting percentage calculated here?

The tool computes 100 × points ÷ [2 × (field-goal attempts + 0.44 × free-throw attempts)]. For 24 points, 18 field-goal attempts and 6 free-throw attempts, that is about 58.1%. The 0.44 is a conventional approximation for free-throw possessions. The tool does not receive field goals made, so it cannot calculate a raw field-goal percentage for comparison.

Which inputs and limits apply to Basketball Stats Calculator?

Use the units shown beside each field. These are form limits, not recommended settings. Points: 0–200; Rebounds: 0–100; Assists: 0–60; Steals: 0–30; Blocks: 0–30; Turnovers: 0–40; Field goal attempts: 0–100; Free throw attempts: 0–60; Minutes played: 0–60 min E = p + X + S − T; TS% = p ÷ (2(F + 0.44Q)) × 100; PPM = p ÷ m True shooting percentage = Points / [2 × (FGA + 0.44 × FTA)]. What is a complete worked example for Points = 24; Rebounds = 8?

Inputs: Points = 24; Rebounds = 8; Assists = 6; Steals = 2; Blocks = 1; Turnovers = 3; Field goal attempts = 18; Free throw attempts = 6; Minutes played = 32 min. Calculation: E = p + X + S − T; TS% = p ÷ (2(F + 0.44Q)) × 100; PPM = p ÷ m. Results: True shooting % = 58.1 %; Efficiency (PTS+REB+AST+STL+BLK-TO) = 38; Points per minute = 0.750.
