Worked example

calculated with the default values below

Task Checkout route · Remaining score to finish 121 · Darts remaining 3 · Points scored 1,500 · Darts thrown 60 · Successful checkouts 12 · Darts attempted at a finishing double 22 Suggested checkout route T20 T11 D14 · Three-dart average 75.00 · Checkout percentage 54.5 % · All darts per successful checkout 5.0 · Note In standard double-out, the final dart must land in a double; the bull (50) counts as double bull.

Method and assumptions

Checkout mode searches standard double-out finishes using at most the available darts. S is single, D double and T triple; 25 is outer bull, while Bull is 50 and may be the final double. A suggested route is one valid option, not a guaranteed or individually optimal strategy. Some valid scores have no finish: 1 and 169 cannot be checked out in three darts, and the maximum three-dart checkout is 170. In statistics mode, three-dart average is points scored divided by all darts thrown, times three. Count each dart aimed at a finishing double as one checkout attempt, not each visit. Checkout percentage is successful checkouts divided by those attempts, times 100; it is unavailable with zero attempts. All darts per successful checkout uses all darts thrown divided by successes, not just finishing darts, and is unavailable with zero successes. Use totals from the same set of legs.

Frequently asked questions

How do I use the checkout finder?

Choose Checkout route, enter the remaining score and select 1, 2 or 3 darts available. The first route and its per-dart remaining scores are shown, with up to five possible routes. All finish on a double or the 50-point bull.

Why is there no route for some scores?

Some scores cannot finish in the available darts under double-out rules. A score of 1 cannot finish; 169 cannot finish in three darts. Scores above 170 also cannot finish in three darts. The tool reports that state rather than inventing a route.

How are match statistics calculated?

Three-dart average is total points divided by all darts thrown, multiplied by three. Count each dart aimed at a finishing double as one attempt. Checkout percentage is successful checkouts divided by attempts, times 100; zero attempts makes that rate unavailable. All darts per successful checkout uses every dart thrown divided by successful checkouts; zero successes makes it unavailable. Use matching totals from the same legs.
