About this calculator

A ratio compares two quantities and stays the same when both sides are multiplied or divided by the same number. Simplifying to the smallest whole numbers makes ratios much easier to compare.

Worked example

First value 24 · Second value 36 · Scale second part to 3 Scaled first value 2.0000 · First divided by second 0.666667 · First as share of total 40.00 %

Frequently asked questions

What happens when a denominator is zero?

A ratio with a zero second term is undefined, and the percentage a ÷ (a + b) is undefined when the total is zero. The calculator reports an input error instead of substituting zero.
