About this calculator

Estimate oil volume from vessel capacity and a chosen fill percentage, then compare it with a rough food-batch ratio. Vessel shape and food displacement are not modeled; use the fryer’s marked maximum fill line and instructions. The batch size is a planning estimate, not a safety limit.

Worked example

calculated with the default values below

Pot or fryer capacity 4 L · Fill level 60 % · Food to fry 500 g Oil needed 2.40 L · Oil weight 2.20 kg · Oil to food ratio 4.4 x · Estimated batch (6:1 oil-to-food assumption) 367 g

Formula and variables

O = V f ÷ 100; M = 0.918O; R = 1000O ÷ m

V
Pot volume (L)
f
Fill percent
O
Oil volume (L)
M
Oil mass (kg)
m
Food weight (g)
R
Oil-to-food ratio

Oil mass = oil volume × 0.918 kg/L; assumed maximum food mass = oil mass ÷ 6. This is a planning ratio, not a safe fill limit.

Frequently asked questions

How is the estimated food batch size calculated?

The model estimates oil mass as oil volume × 0.918 kg/L, then divides that mass by six for its assumed 6:1 oil-to-food ratio. For a 4 L pot filled to 60%, it estimates 2.4 L (2.2032 kg) of oil and a 367 g food batch. This is a planning assumption, not a safe fill limit; follow the fryer manufacturer’s instructions.
