About this calculator
Estimate sod area with a waste allowance, plus pallets and 10 sq ft rolls. Roll count assumes each roll covers 10 sq ft; supplier sizes vary, so confirm coverage and order quantities with your sod supplier. Cost uses the entered price per square foot and excludes delivery, installation and tax.
Worked example
calculated with the default values below
Lawn length 50 ft · Lawn width 30 ft · Waste allowance 5 % · Sod per pallet 450 sq ft · Price per square foot 0.45 $ Lawn area 1,500.0 sq ft · Area including waste 1,575.0 sq ft · Pallets to order 4 · 10 sq ft rolls (estimate) 158 · Estimated cost 708.75 $

Frequently asked questions
What assumptions affect the sod order estimate?
Estimate sod area with a waste allowance, plus pallets and 10 sq ft rolls. Roll count assumes each roll covers 10 sq ft; supplier sizes vary, so confirm coverage and order quantities with your sod supplier. Cost uses the entered price per square foot and excludes delivery, installation and tax.
How soon should sod be laid after delivery?
Within twenty-four hours, and ideally the same day, in warm weather. Turf is a living plant with its roots severed from the soil, and it begins to heat and ferment in the stack almost immediately. Keep it in shade, water it if the surface dries, and never leave it rolled up over a hot weekend. Preparation should be finished before the delivery arrives, not after.
