About this calculator
A punch bowl serves about eight ounces per guest, and most bowls hold only one and a half gallons — so a party of fifty needs four refills, not one giant bowl. Working out batches in advance keeps the ingredients measured and the bowl never empty.

Total volume = guests × cups per guest × cup size in fluid ounces ÷ 128. Batches = ceiling(total gallons / bowl size). Juice, soda, sherbet, ice and cup quantities use fixed planning ratios and do not form a recipe guarantee.
Frequently asked questions
Why do I need four batches for only forty guests?
Total punch is guests times cups times cup size, so 40 guests at 2 cups of 8 oz each need 640 oz, or 5 gallons. Because the default bowl holds just 1.5 gallons, the tool rounds up to 4 batches to keep the bowl filled through the party. It also splits the 5 gallons as 2.5 gal juice, 2 gal soda and about 4.4 quarts of sherbet.
