Frequently asked questions
Why is one butter stick equal to half a cup and eight tablespoons?
The converter keys every unit to grams, with one stick fixed at 113.398 grams, which is exactly half of the 226.796 gram cup and one eighth of it per tablespoon, so a stick is 0.5 cups or 8 tablespoons. European recipes in grams avoid the ambiguity entirely, since a stick is not a standard measure outside the US. The tool converts both directions, so 2 sticks become about 226.8 grams or 4 ounces.
