About this calculator
This is the Canadian wind-chill formula, not a personal frostbite-time forecast or an official local warning. Enter wind speed in km/h. This calculator applies the equation only at or below 0°C and at or above 5 km/h; outside those conditions it reports an error.
Worked example
calculated with the default values below
Air temperature -5 °C · Wind speed 25 km/h · Temperature unit Celsius Wind chill -12.3 °C · Wind chill 9.8 °F
Method and assumptions
Formula basis and scope
Uses the Celsius/km/h wind-chill relationship with coefficients 13.12, 0.6215, −11.37 and 0.3965, and wind speed raised to 0.16.
This page restricts the calculation to temperatures at or below 0°C and wind speeds of at least 5 km/h, a narrower temperature range than the NWS chart. It estimates perceived cold, not an object temperature.
