About this calculator
Volume units with similar names are not always interchangeable: this converter distinguishes US and Imperial gallons. One US gallon is exactly 3.785411784 L; one Imperial gallon is 4.54609 L. The cup, pint, quart and fluid-ounce entries are US customary units.

Method and assumptions
Formula basis and scope
Convert liquid volume via litres; US and imperial gallons are distinct options.
US customary and imperial liquid measures differ. This is volume, not ingredient mass; no density conversion is performed.

Disclaimer
These calculators give general conversion results. Rounding and the precision of the value you enter both affect the output, so treat displayed decimals as indicative rather than exact.

Frequently asked questions
Why does the converter show different gallons for the UK and US?
The converter keeps US and UK gallons as separate units because they are not equal: one US gallon is 3.785 litres while one UK (imperial) gallon is 4.546 litres, about 20% more. Selecting galuk instead of gal changes the result for the same input, so a recipe or fuel figure quoted in imperial gallons will read lower in US gallons.
