Frequently asked questions
Why do months and years convert using average lengths, not calendar months?
Months and years are not fixed, so the tool uses 30.44 days for a month and 365.25 for a year, encoded as 2,629,800 and 31,557,600 seconds. Converting 1 month to days gives 30.44, not 28 to 31, and 1 year is always 365.25 days regardless of leap years. Milliseconds, seconds, minutes and hours stay exact because they are constant multiples.
