About this calculator
Estimate storage space from item-count assumptions, an 8 ft usable ceiling and a packing allowance based on how often you need access. These are planning estimates; actual furniture dimensions, aisle needs, unit layout and facility pricing vary. Confirm measurements and rates before booking.
Worked example
calculated with the default values below
Bedrooms being stored 2 · Living rooms being stored 1 · Number of boxes 60 · Large furniture pieces 5 · Access needed regularly Stored long term · Monthly rate per 5x10 unit 120 $ · Months of storage 6 months Volume of goods 1,055 cu ft · Recommended unit 10 x 20 ft · Unit floor area 200 sq ft · Estimated usable volume per unit 1,120 cu ft · Units needed 1 · Monthly cost 480.00 $ · Total cost for your period 2,880.00 $

Formula and variables

Estimated volume uses fixed item-volume assumptions. Capacity applies an 8-ft height and 50%, 60% or 70% packing allowance based on access frequency; price scales linearly from a 5×10 rate. These are planning assumptions.
Frequently asked questions
What does the access setting change?
It changes the assumed share of unit volume available for stored goods: frequent access reserves more space for aisles. The model uses fixed allowances and does not replace measuring your items and planned layout.
