About this calculator
This is a footprint estimate based on room dimensions and a few layout assumptions; it does not locate furniture. Dining rugs leave 24 inches beyond the table on every side, using both table dimensions. Check door swings, walkways and furniture before choosing a rug.

Room dimensions are ft; table length/width are in. Dining footprint adds 24 in to each table edge and errors if neither orientation fits. Living uses room dimensions minus 2 ft per edge; other layouts use fixed heuristics. The nearest listed size is selected only if it fits the room; verify furniture and clearance.

Why does the dining rug add four feet to the table length?
The dining calculation uses both table dimensions and adds 24 inches to each edge. A 72 × 36 inch table gives a model footprint of 10 × 7 feet; an error appears if neither room orientation fits. Other room types use separate rough layouts and do not locate furniture.
