About this calculator
Estimate floss from stitch count, strands per stitch, average thread length used per strand and an additional waste allowance. Measure a small sample when accuracy matters. Use the skein length printed on the package; the tool rounds the skein count up to whole skeins.

Frequently asked questions
How should I enter thread length per stitch and skein length?
Enter the average length used by one strand per stitch; strand count multiplies it. The waste percentage is an additional allowance, so do not count tails or pull-through length twice. Use the package length shown by the maker: 8 m is about 8.75 yd, so 8.7 yd is an approximate conversion of 8 m.
