1 mL ≈ 0.0042267528 US cup

About this calculator

A US customary cup is 236.588 millilitres, while a metric cup used in Australia and New Zealand is 250 millilitres. The difference is small per cup but adds up in a large batch.

Method and assumptions

Formula basis and scope

The US customary cup is 236.5882365 mL; the separate metric-cup option is defined as 250 mL.

US customary and imperial liquid measures differ. This is volume, not ingredient mass; no density conversion is performed.

Disclaimer

These calculators give general conversion results. Rounding and the precision of the value you enter both affect the output, so treat displayed decimals as indicative rather than exact.

Frequently asked questions

Why is an Australian metric cup larger than a US cup?

The converter uses 236.588 millilitres for a US customary cup but 250 millilitres for the metric cup used in Australia and New Zealand, so one metric cup already holds about 13.4 millilitres more. Picking the metric cup direction therefore inflates every result, and the gap widens with volume: ten metric cups is 2.5 litres against 2.366 litres for ten US cups. The fluid ounces and litres outputs update to match the chosen basis.
