About this calculator

Bulk buying only pays off when you will actually use the whole package before it spoils and you have somewhere to store it. Perishable goods frequently waste more than the bulk discount saves.

Frequently asked questions

How does expected waste change the bulk saving?

Gross saving is the cost of buying the same quantity in single packs minus the bulk price. With the defaults, singles cost about $27.92 versus $24.99 in bulk, a $2.93 gross saving. A 5% waste rate reduces the usable single-pack equivalent by about $1.40, leaving roughly $1.53 before storage cost. The model subtracts that wasted share and storage cost; adjust the percentage to your expected loss.
